Details
This 1966 Pontiac GTO hardtop coupe underwent a multi-year cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment, which included rebuilding the 389ci with dished pistons, forged connecting rods, ported cylinder heads, and a revised camshaft. A Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission was fitted at that time along with an Eaton limited-slip differential and 3.09:1 gears. The exterior received a replacement hood and taillight panel before the car was refinished in blue. Replacement Parchment vinyl upholstery was fitted during the interior re-trim. The car rides on 15″ Rally I-style wheels and front disc brakes, and power steering is installed.
The car was factory-finished in Burgundy and Cameo Ivory, and it was refinished in blue during the refurbishment. Rally I-style 15″ wheels feature chrome trim rings and are mounted with Grand Am Radial GT tires, and a covered spare is stowed in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, and stopping is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes.
The 389ci V8 was rebuilt during the refurbishment, which included over-boring the cylinders .030″ and fitting Ross dished pistons, Crower forged connecting rods, and a 288/296 camshaft. The cylinder heads have been ported and decked before anti-pump-up lifters and hardened exhaust seats were installed. Further details include an Edelbrock carburetor, a PerTronix HEI ignition system, and Hooker tubular exhaust headers feeding a 2.5″ exhaust system with electronic cut-outs and Dynomax mufflers.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission that is fitted with a billet flywheel and a replacement clutch kit. The rear axle have been fitted with an Eaton limited-slip differential with 3.09:1 gearing.
